Built on Four Decades of Doing Things Right.
WJ Hall Construction has been a working part of San Diego’s residential landscape since 1986. Not the biggest company on the block. Not trying to be. Just a well-run operation that’s been here long enough to earn the relationships that keep the work coming.
One Market. Forty Years. The Same Standard From Day One.
WJ Hall Construction started in 1986 as a framing crew. One truck, a few good hands, and a reputation that got built one job at a time. The work was structural framing — new homes, mostly — and the approach was simple: show up when you say you will, build it right, clean up after yourself, and move on to the next one.
Over the years the scope expanded. Additions. Remodels. Finish carpentry. Select light commercial projects. A network of vetted trade partners that can handle the full scope of a residential build when a project calls for it.
What didn’t change was the operating standard. Every project still gets managed directly. Every commitment still gets honored. And every client still works with someone who’s been doing this long enough to know what matters and what doesn’t.
Owner-Operated Since Day One.
Bill Hall founded WJ Hall Construction in 1986 and still runs every project personally. No office layers. No project managers relaying messages. The person you talk to is the person managing the work.
That direct involvement is a deliberate choice. It keeps communication clean, it keeps quality consistent, and it means decisions happen on site — not in a conference room three days later.
Bill holds an active Class B General Building Contractor’s license, maintains full insurance coverage across every required category, and is a member of the Building Industry Association of San Diego. He’s built his career in one market because he believes the best work comes from knowing a place well enough to anticipate its challenges before they become problems.
The Basics Shouldn’t Be the Exception.
Direct Communication
You talk to the person running your project. Updates are straightforward, decisions happen fast, and nothing gets lost in translation.
Clean Job Sites
Materials organized, cuts managed, site left the way the next trade needs to find it. This isn’t a bonus — it’s how professional work gets done.
Paperwork Handled
Insurance certificates, licensing verification, lien releases, permits — we keep everything current and make it easy to pull when you need it.
Vetted Trade Partners
When a project needs more than our core crew, we bring in licensed, insured partners we’ve worked with for years. Our network. Our standards.
San Diego County. It’s the Only Market We’ve Ever Needed.
Some companies spread themselves across regions. We went the other direction. Forty years in one county means we know the permitting offices, the inspection expectations, the soil conditions, the coastal engineering requirements, and the neighborhoods where every project has its own set of surprises.
That depth of local knowledge doesn’t show up on a brochure. It shows up when a project goes smoother than expected because the crew already knew what was coming.
